 Whitburn Health Centre

Services Provided


Whitburn Group Medical Practice provides a wide range of medical services for all patients.

They are as follows:-


Maternity Services - Provided in partnership with the Community Midwives.

Child Health/Child Immunisation - Provided in partnership with the Health Visitors.

Contraceptive Services - Provided mainly during normal surgery hours.

Cervical Smears - Provided by G.P.’s and nursing staff.

Minor surgery - Provided by G.P.’s and nursing staff.

Physiotherapy - Either referral by G.P. or self referral via Community Desk

Podiatry - Either referral by G.P. or self referral via Community Desk


Non NHS examinations: Medical examinations for special purposes eg. HGV medicals, Elderly Drivers, Pre-employment medicals etc may require a double or triple appointment, so please tell the receptionist if you are booking an appointment for this type of medical. A fee will be payable for these examinations in accordance with the standard BMA rate, a copy of which is available from reception.


Practice Nurse


We have a fully qualified practice nurse who runs chronic disease management clinics both independently in conjunction with a doctor i.e. Asthma, COPD, Diabetic, Cervical smear and travel Clinic.

Treatment Room


We have a qualified nurse working in the Health Centre weekdays between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Appointments are made through the Community Reception after consultation with the Doctor or by phoning 01501 740719. Patients can be seen for dressings, blood tests, BP checks and removal of stitches.


District Nurses


We have a team of specialised nurses who assess, plan and provide nursing care for housebound patients. District nurses work with a wide range of professionals, co-ordinating, monitoring and evaluating packages of care for patients with complex care needs. They provide expert advice, education and health promotion offering a service that is patient centred. They may be contacted on 01501 740719


Health Visitors


We have 3 vocationally trained registered Health Visitors who are available for advice on general health care and are particularly involved in assessment and supervision of young children, patients with special needs and the elderly. They may be contacted on 01501 740719




There are 2 Community Midwives who provide care for woman during pregnancy and post-natally. They may be contacted on 01501 740719.


Community Psychiatric Nurses


There are Community Psychiatric Nurses who provide care for those with psychiatric illness. They may be contacted on 01501 740719
